Meet Our Counselors

Medical Director

I have lived in Roanoke for over 35 years. In addition to my love of psychiatric medicine, I love playing golf and drumming in my spare time. Co-workers have lovingly dubbed me G2, and I am the founder of both Walnut Avenue Associates and Avenues to Recovery. I am board certified in addiction psychiatry as well as adult and geriatric psychiatry. I enjoy helping people help themselves.

Nurse Practitioner

I was a Registered Nurse for 17 years before graduating from Chamberlain College of Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have a Master’s Degree in Law from Champlain College. I am also certified as a Diabetic Educator. When I am not working I enjoy local community volunteer work, church activities but most of all hanging out with my family.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with thirteen years of experience in the mental health field working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings including community service agencies, foster care agencies, and public schools. Areas of specialty include depression, stress, anxiety, grief and loss, anger, behaviors, and adjustment issues.

Physician Assistant

I worked for over 20 years in the nursing field before going to Jefferson College of Health Sciences to train as a Physician Assistant. I have also taken some graduate-masters courses in health sciences education at Virginia Tech. In my leisure time, I enjoy being with family and friends, exercising, reading, cooking, and occasionally skydiving.

My name is Sarah Rodes. I earned my physician assistant degree from Mountain State University in 1996. I have lived in the Roanoke area for 5 years and I have been working as a psychiatric PA since 2006. I like to travel and spend time with family, friends, and my dog Hippie. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and enjoying a good shot of espresso.
